THE GREAT RENO BALLOON RACE OF 2001

One event that went on as scheduled in 2001, was The Great Reno Balloon Race, held at Rancho San Rafael Park, just north of Reno, between September 7th and 9th.

AAFO.COM photographer Mike Gallagher caught this vista of a sky filled with the hot air balloons during the Hare and Hound competition. There were 62 entries in the Hare and Hound competition, which featured participants from all over the United States, Mexico, and one visitor from as far away as Auckland, New Zealand. The Balloon Races are held in the week before qualifications for the National Championship Air Races and usually attract large crowds to the Air Races themselves.
