Owned by Gary Levitz and Bill Rogers - piloted by Gary Levitz Miss Ashley II is so radically modified from a stock P-51D that it has the distinction of having it's own designation, a P-51R. With a Lear Jet wing and tail, new composite fiber wing leading edge, "new metal" fuse, a Griffon engine, counter-rotating propellers and variable incidence tail - this aircraft was to "unleash the hounds" this year - but that was not meant to be (click here for full story). Still, despite all the problems the aircraft finished a very respectable 4th in this years Gold Unlimited event at a speed of 411.645 MPH (speed adjusted due to +14 second penalty for cutting pylon #4 on the first lap.... unadjusted average speed was 421.83 mph). |
