IF1 Photo Essay

Gary has something over 17,000 flying hours and has been racing since 1984. He has raced in the T-6 class and will be racing Bill Rheinschild’s "Risky Business" at Reno 2000 if both of Bill’s Unlimiteds end up in the same race. Gary is currently building up an R2000 powered Yak-11. One interesting point about IF1 racing is that pilot size and weight make a real difference. Gary is quite a bit bigger and heavier than some of his opponents (a lifetime of horsing crop dusters around makes for a very solid pilot). Twenty five pounds makes little relative difference in a 7000 pound P-51 – in a 500 pound IF1 it can be huge.
