Another intriguing design is Robbie Grove’s GR-7. This example was built in the late 1980s and in 1989 was the top qualifier, piloted by Jon Sharp. More recently, it was raced in 1996 and 1997 by Randy Howell as "Madder Max". In 1996, Randy qualified in third place at 244.8 mph., and in 1997 qualified second at 245.634 mph. In that year’s Gold Race "Madder Max" finished a solid second (to "Nemesis"), at 237.298 mph.
