Another candidate which can only be considered a "long shot" is Holbrook Maslen’s beautiful "Judy". This airplane has a very long history. It was the fourth plans-built Shoestring. It was built in 1971 for the late Judy Wagner. Over the next decade she won many races but never took a Reno championship, though she did finish second to Ray Cote in the original "Shoestring" several times.

Ray Cote acquired the airplane from the Wagner estate in 1982 and won Reno Championships in it in 1984 and 1985. Alan Preston won two more Reno Golds in "Judy" and the airplane has passed through several owners since that time. As recently as 1990, Hep Porter put "Judy" in second place in the Gold and in 1991, Hep finished fourth at 240.994 mph in the fastest Gold Race in history to that time. "Judy" was a solid Gold Racer as late as 1996, when Tom Hauptman finished fourth in the Gold.
