Mark S. Daniels Ramp and Action Shots

A Douglas DC-4 Tanker of the Nevada Department of Forestry departs to fight a brush fire east of Reno, as two AT-6 Class trainers turn into Outer Pylon One at Stead. Race Control handled Tanker Operations simultaneously with NGS course traffic. These very busy pilots were heavily taxed on Sunday at the "new guy school" Fighting a fire east of Reno all day.. As the day ended, thunderstorms moved in and quite literally, ringed the area with brush fires… A comment on the radio from one of the pilots to the tower after the tower said "you guys are making some money today" … summed it up. The tired pilot on the other end of the conversation said: "by the bucket full."
