"JUG"

Photographer, Dominique Thirot, has a distinct advantage for most of the air show season... Europe has a BUNCH of shows!

Currently buried in transparencies from his air show wanderings, Dominique sends us this beautiful look at the Republic P-47 "Thunderbolt," taken at Duxford, England.

Nicknamed "The Jug" due to the shape of the fuselage resembling milk jugs of that era... this aircraft looks more like a flying tank to this editor's eye! They were BIG!

Though there were many built during the war era, this fighter is one of the most rare World War Two fighter types. Not the fastest or the sleekest, this airplane is one of my all time favorites..

The "Jug" did the job and brought her pilots home. Heavily armored and even more heavily *armed * this airplane's eight .50 caliber machine guns packed a heavy punch.
