Historic Hughes Racer To Appear At Nellis AFB

As AAFO.COM mentioned on the previous page, Jim Wright had no plans to make his beautiful racer a "Hangar Queen," and an already ambitious appearance schedule is beginning to take shape! With appearances already scheduled at the National Championship Air Races, and now at Las Vegas for the prestigious Nellis AFB Air Show, the airplane with barely forty hours on the tach has already begun its own trek into the annals of World Aviation History.

This news is both the second and latest development in another story all by itself and we will have more detailed information on this subject here on AAFO.COM shortly; but as of now, we know that six of the top Unlimited Air Race teams have accepted invitations to appear at Nellis and will be giving daily demonstrations to the expected 400,000 aviation fans present at "Aviation Nation."

So, have we whetted your appetite for Air Racing sufficiently enough, with these brief teaser announcements designed to get the wheels turning in your head, on you setting your plans for where you’re going to be come October 5-6?

Well, there is even more! AAFO.COM has received word that invitations to several other Unlimited Air Race teams are being developed as we go to press with this Hughes Racer Replica Update…

Aviation Nation, the official air show of Nellis Air Force Base, NV, is the only air show scheduled in Southern Nevada this year. Nellis Air Force Base, located on the outskirts of Las Vegas, is the home of the U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron "Thunderbirds;" Red Flag, U.S. Air Force Weapons School and U.S. Air Force Air Ground Operations School. It was the site of the Air Force’s 50^th anniversary celebration air show in 1997.

Aviation Nation is one of North America’s largest air shows and is expected to attract approximately 400,000 attendees in 2002. The AFB Nellis show is supported by the Nevada International Air Show Association (NIASA)*.

A Media Day will occur on Friday, October 4, 2002, followed by the Air Show itself, on Saturday (5t^h) and Sunday (6^th).

* NIASA is a non-profit organization that seeks the advancement of public awareness of air power via annual air shows at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada.
