Livio Bognuda flies his wildly painted Lancair IV,
Live Wire, around the Sport Class course at Reno.

Livio had the "distinction" of being the
only Air Racer this year to be allowed to compete
with a passenger on board.. His unwilling guest
was a Buzzard that had the unfortunate luck to be
in the wrong place at the wrong time. A "mid air"
collision with the hapless aerial observer resulted
in the bird becoming embedded in Livio's wing..

The race committee was understanding of this minor
infraction of the rules pertaining to passengers in the
airplane during a race and Livio was allowed to
continue in competition once repairs were made.
