No question, Jimmy Leeward likes his MiG-17! Though an earlier announcement by The Reno Air Racing Association had dampened expectations for the possibility of a Jet Demonstration Race, the crowd on Sunday was treated to a spectacular and very fun example of what this class might provide in the future. At the completion of racing on Sunday, several of the vintage jets on the field took to the course. The T-33 pace plane, two of the Stoli MiG's, Jimmy Leeward in his immaculate MiG-17 and the L-39 that had been used all week for starting position assistance for Unlimited Racing, all jockeyed for position on the course. Radio chatter from the obviously entertained pilots, showed that not only the crowd was enjoying this preview of jets on the course at Reno.
