Reno 2000: The Week in Pictures
Activity in the Pits builds to a feverish pitch during the National Championship Air Races. The Pits is a very colorful place that is usually packed with aircraft, trailers, vehicles, bicycles, motor scooters, vendors, sponsors, and hundreds of thousands of visitors. One can catch the smell of Barbecue and racing fuels, sun tan lotion and motor oil, merely by standing in one spot. Merchandise is sold by the various teams, while busily staging their aircraft for the next race. Over one thousand pilots and mechanics are moving about at any one given time, mingling with friends and fans alike as they make their way through the crowd. There are parties and bands in the evening. All night maintenance sessions underway from dusk to dawn. There is always something to see in the Pits.
