Reno 2000: The Week in Pictures
The other "turbocharged" Questaire Venture, Race 60, owned and piloted by Bob Schmidt, had no appreciable impact on the outcome of the Sport Division racing, leaving the Papa 51 and Lancair factories to duel between themselves. The Papa 51 "Thunder Mustang" took first place in three events, while the Lancair team won the Gold in the end. Next year might be different, with the anticipated debut of a turbocharged "Thunder Mustang" variant expected—however, unknown if it will race in the Unlimiteds or Sport Division. Beyond that aircraft, at least two Thunder Mustangs are expected to challenge the Lancair factory in the Sport Division next year.
