Its great to have a
partner!
One of the problems in
trying to photograph an event like Reno is that
there is simply too much going on. If Im on
the pylons, I obviously cannot be in the pits or
on the start line. If Im doing pilot
portraits, Im missing a race.
This was a particular
problem 10 years ago when I was crewing
If
your name is on the Bear youve gotta
be with the Bear even if an IF1 Gold Race
is going on!
Eight years ago I met a
woman. Seven years ago she insisted on coming to
Reno, even though she knew that in eighteen years
of "Renos" I had never ever brought a
girlfriend to the Races.
Her first day there she
insisted on getting a camera and then disappeared
for the day. Now at that point she had never even
held an SLR camera in fact when she went
on vacation she used to bring the camera to the
AV guy at work so he could load it for her. I
gave her some basic settings to use and she did
great work right from that beginning!
Needless to say, Birgitta
is a fast learner and now she is actually better
than I am at many things photographic. Now I can
spend the day on the pylons and know that
Birgitta is blasting around the pits, getting
incredible photos, while I spend most of each day
getting the pylon racing shots that make an Air
Race photographers reputation.
This is a look at the Reno
2000 T-6 Gold Race, as seen by two sets of eyes.
In the near future, we will be presenting the
Unlimited Gold and the IF1 Gold the same way.
Its great to have a
partner.
