Perfectly exposed airplanes!

Something I’m beginning to learn about photographing airplanes... Let the camera do the work when it’s pointing at the sky and likely as not, you’ll get a perfectly exposed sky. Only one problem with that – your subject is the airplane – not the sky.

Following the tip in the previous photo, setting your light using an object on the ground that is close in contrast and color to the aircraft; a car door, a bush, the sand, a rock – or as a very fine photographer, Neal Nurmi told me – even your hand. Anything that is closer to the lighting of the airplane and not the sky; then shoot the aircraft using that setting and see the results you get.
