Something special will be in
the air over southern California on the
weekend of May 15th. Actually there will
be many special things in the air and
lucky for us, they will all be over the
Chino airport, about 40 miles from
downtown Los Angeles. It is time for the
Planes of Fame Airshow 2004.
On both
May 15 and 16, everything from jets to
biplanes will be featured on the ground
and in the air. Gates open at 8 AM. The
show begins at 11:30 and runs till 4:00.
The Chino airport will be open for normal
fight traffic before 11:30, a 25-minute
window from 1:40-2:05, and will reopen at
4:00.
Some of the highlights will
include:
- A
special Pacific Air Battle
between FM-2 Wildcats, Zeros, and
P-38 Lightning. First the Zero
and the Wildcats will go after
each other. The Zeros
maneuverability will give it the
upper hand until the Lightning
arrives
- The
P-38 National Association
reunion, a group of WWII P-38
fighter pilots, will be attending
the air show
- D-Day
Invasion Aircraft Display with
Mustangs, Spitfires, B-25
Mitchells, P-47 Thunderbolts,
Hurricane, and Avenger
- Northrop
N9M Flying Wing Performance
- Korean
Air War F-86 Sabre and MiG 15

General admission tickets
will be $15 each, tickets for children 5
to 11 will be $5 each, and children under
5 will be admitted free of charge. There
is also a $2 off coupon available at the
Airshow 2004 website http://www.planesoffame.org/airshow04.html. Advance discount
tickets are available for $10 each
directly from The Air Museum "Planes
of Fame". Ample free parking
will be available.
