Sometimes during the
flight, we were actually skimming the bottom of
the hazy overcast, visually the effect was eerie,
if not surreal. There is no way the camera can
capture the true feeling of the moment but I will
do my best to fill in the blanks: It was cool and
damp and windy; wispy bits of moisture laden
vapor would flit between us revealing our speed
through the air as we bobbed through the currents
just beneath the clouds. Every pilot in the
formation had his gaze fixed on the airplane to
his left, never for a moment did anyone take
their eyes off the next airplane in the
formation.
