Veteran Air Racer Al Goss flying his North American At-6/SNJ Air Racer "Son of a Witch" "Warlock" at Aviation Nation 2005 is our choice for Picture Of The Week. In Al's case POTW could just as easily stand for Pilot Of The Week!

A tough competitor, always at the front of the pack, "Pappa Goss" is one of the people who bring fun and excitement to the grand sport of air racing. Winning the championship in 2004 after a long dry spell, Al nearly made it two in a row at the 2005 National Championship Air Races at Reno, Nevada.

For the photographers looking in this week, you'll note a rather high shutter speed in this shot. "Getting away" with 1/400th is sometimes necessary in order to get the shot. In this case, I was extremely lucky in that Al was running a fairly high prop RPM and together with the side angle of the photo, even at the chosen shutter speed, the prop all but disappears...
