"Good Penney"

There's an old saying that goes something like "keeps coming back like a bad penney"... Well the Penney we're featuring this week is anything but bad and we think that most of his fans would LOVE to see him come back!

John Penney stuck with Lyle Shelton's Rare Bear program through many years of up's and down's until last year, after bringing the plane in for its second first place in as many years, he stunned his fans by resigning as the team's pilot at the 2005 Reno Air Races awards banquet.

In this week's featured photograph, we captured John as he rounded Reno's Pylon 7 at the 2005 Reno National Championship Air Races Pylon Racing School at the Reno Stead Airport.

Will we ever see Mr. Penney in Lyle Shelton's Rare Bear again?

I guess there's another old saying that we can all hope will become appropriate at some time in the future... "never say never"...

Special thanks to Michael Hougton and the Reno Air Racing Association for getting us out to Pylon 7 during race training to capture this moment in the history of Air Racing.
